Printmaking Workshop: Discover Your Collagraph

180.00

October 20th & 21st (10:30-3pm)

Join visiting artist Yasuyo Tanaka for a special printmaking workshop in Boulder. Oct 20-21, 10:30am - 3pm, $180 includes some materials.

Class description:

Collagraph is an additive plate making process that has more in common with sculpture than intaglio. It has a creative freedom not found in any other printmaking media. If you are a mixed media artist looking for a new approach to your work, this is the process for you.

It is free from acids and grounds, instead relying on acrylic mediums, fabrics, and found objects to create rich surfaces on the plates. The plates are printed on an etching press with dampened paper, allowing for dramatic embossment. Collagraph can combine other print techniques. The ghost prints are used for various layers of printing. Collagraph plates can be transferred the etching plates.

This workshop will involve diverse experimental trials to discover your own printmaking methods. Don't be afraid to change your common sense of printmaking. Let's train flexible thinking. Basic printmaking experience or some other art background is helpful.

Please bring your work to introduce yourself to the participants.
